Prospect Spotlight: Devante Gilbert (2019)
Devante Gilbert is in for an expanded role this year as a junior.
The 2019 guard says he had a great year and produced as he earned bigger roles. The Fightin’ Tigers went 11-16 in Class 5A play.
“I learned how to be a leader on and off the court,” Gilbert told Prep Hoops Florida. “I had to lead by example and score the basketball. My coach changed my shot to an older and more fluent basketball shot. Next season at Jones I’m going to have to play a big role in scoring and leadership.”
At 6’3″, 165 lbs., Gilbert has the ability to play both guard spots and the wing.
He joined the Q6 All Stars this summer. He says his focus this summer is to be more consistent and aggressive each game.
Starting his basketball life at age 11, Gilbert pointed to his shooting and ability to create for his teammates as his top strengths. He’s aiming to attack the basket more and jump higher this season.
No offers or interest have come yet for Gilbert, but his confidence is on the rise playing a top role for Q6 this summer. At Jones, he earned the coaching staff’s trust as the season grew on and now he’s earned a starting gig because of it.
