Prospect Spotlight: Christian De Leon (2019)
Christian De Leon may be viewed as yet another undersized guard. However, he has real skills as a ballhandler and speed demon.
The 2019 guard stands at 5’8″, 155 lbs. He says he noticed his shot get better this past season. He plans to be an even bigger leader for Alonso as a junior.
This summer, De Leon is running with Skills Center, a program he’s been with for the last two years. He’s aiming to get stronger and attack the basket more this summer.
Starting his basketball life at age 4, De Leon has a famous mentor in his life. That person is Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. You’ll often see McCoy out watching Tampa Bay high school basketball especially the Alonso program with De Leon at the helm.
“He [McCoy] has been my mentor since the 6th grade, De Leon told Prep Hoops Florida. “It all started when he came to my AAU game and saw how I played the game of basketball. It’s a blessing to have someone who been through it all as my mentor.”
De Leon called his IQ and handles his biggest strengths. Right now, he has no offers or interest. You may look at him and say, he is too late, but the kid is a scoring machine. He is a confident guard who creates for others and makes some really tough acrobatic layups.
