Prospect Spotlight: Brandon Garcia (2020)
As a freshman, Brandon Garcia proved awfully quickly that he was an asset at the varsity level.
The 2020 Cypress Bay guard played on a young squad that included 2019 guard Tyler Krivitzkin a season ago.
Garcia, a 6’1″, 170-pounder fractured his ankle prior to districts and because of it missed the rest of the season. Cypress Bay advanced to the region quarterfinal after capturing the Class 9A-District 12, but Garcia’s absence was noticeable in the team’s 44-40 loss to Deerfield Beach.
“This past high school season for me was great. We were a young team and we did better than a lot of people thought we were going to do,” Garcia told Prep Hoops Florida. “We won districts and I believe if I wasn’t hurt we could of went further.
“I learned more about just the overall game of basketball. I had great coaches that help me every day in practice. I feel like my jump shot has gotten a lot better and my knowledge of the game has grown. And next year my role for Cypress is just to put my team in position to win.”
This summer, Garcia is running with Team Knight. He’s looking to improve his overall game on the Adidas Uprising circuit.
Starting his basketball life at age 5, Garcia calls his ability to score his biggest strength. He’s aiming to improve his work on defense so he can become a true two-way player.
No offers or interest have come for Garcia yet. He’s fully recovered from his ankle injury late last season. With health and strength back on his side, the rising sophomore will look to prove his worth once again.
He’s ahead of a lot of the 2020 players in his area and around the state in terms of his scoring ability. Look for Garcia to have a strong sophomore campaign.
