Prospect Spotlight: Alex Fitch (2019)
Rock Ridge will have a new look this year, and the addition of 2019 guard Alex Fitch will make a major impact. A native of Roanoke, VA, the 6’4 rising junior will attend Rock Ridge and play for Phoenix Head Coach Jay Geyer this season.
“I’m a a scorer. And I’ve gotten to be a good defender,” Fitch explained. “I’ve been playing for as long as I can remember. I have a good middle game. Like my mid range. A lot of people don’t do that any more. But my one dribble pull up, and my step back. Not a lot of people can guard it.”
Fitch is playing a key role for 16U DC Premier on the UAA this spring, and hopes to continue to showcase his ability this summer. He is coming off a strong run of play at West Virginia Team, and Elon Elite Camp respectively. Both schools have expressed interest. Fitch credits the high level of competition to his aforementioned defensive improvements.
“Just playing against better competition, and really working hard,” Fitch stated. “I need to work on my versatility, my athleticism, and getting stronger.”
Fitch has a 3.6 GPA, and could emerge as a target of some high academic Division One programs. He attended Davidson Elite Camp on Friday. What can he bring to a college program?
“I can definitely be a knock down shooter, and a versatile player on both ends of the court.”
We saw Fitch go for 28 points on 6 of 12 from downtown at the Flint Hill Summer League on Wednesday Night. He also recorded five steals. He has been shooting the lights out in recent weeks, and he considered this an “off” game. It will be interesting to see Fitch continue to progress, and what type of impact he will have on Rock Ridge this season.
