Prospect Spotlight: 2019 Damiree Burns (Video)
Damiree Burns is one of the more intriguing, versatile and intense players in his class. He has a swagger and confidence on the court that is matched by few and he competes at a high level game in and game out.
He’s a long 6-foot-5 and functions as a forward for both Sophie B. Wright and NOLA23 snatching rebounds and challenging shots at the rim. Burns has also flashed the ability to guard more perimeter-oriented players as well, though, and embraces those situations when they arise.
Offensively, his best work is done in the paint where he’s a consistent finisher that plays through contact and he also runs well in transition to get easy buckets. On top of those attributes, he’s also capable of stepping out and making the occasional 3-pointer but it’s still an area where he can improve, along with his ball handling.
Burns has some early interest from a Southland Conference school but it’s still quiet for him on the recruiting front. That should change, however, as more teams see what the 6-foot-5 prospect has to offer.
