Player Spotlight: Marcus Richardson (2018)
Marcus Richardson is far from your normal high school basketball player, at 6’8 he doesn’t play inside much instead shows his skills on the wing. During the high school season he plays with a homeschool organization team in the Raleigh area, and during the AAU season instead of playing in a ridiculous amount of tournaments, he’s spending time working on his game. We were introduced to Marcus but scout Tony Bruton of Basketball Elite & Bucketreel.com, he raved about his talent and potential so he was invited to the East NC Fab 40 Camp. At camp he got the opportunity to play in front of a high amount of coaches and against some of the top talent in the state, you didn’t have to watch him very long to see the potential he had.
What does he do well?
He is a versatile player that can shoot the ball from deep, defend multiple positons and get teammates involved, he also has a very nice IQ for the game. Although he is an outstanding player he is an even better person, he’s a very respectful young man and is a very good student in the classroom. One thing that really impresses me about Marcus is his work ethic, many kids would complain and whine about working on their game instead of playing AAU but you can constantly see him putting in massive hours to continue to get better.
Recruitment?
Speaking with his father recently he informed that Marcus would be attending Liberty University Elite Camp, Elon University Camp the following week and Davidson College after camp at Elon. All of these programs could potentially be nice fits for Richardson, many college programs simply don’t know about Richardson yet but it’s only a matter of time before his name is on the target list of multiple colleges.
