Louisiana Class of 2018 Wings Breakdown
Now that we are fully into the swing of the grassroots season and starting to head into the time for team camps, we felt that it was time to give our readers a refresher on the guys that will be leading the top teams going forward. We are going to move on to wings.
The wings of the 2018 class might not have the top-end nationally recruited names that the guards and the forwards have, but there are definitely some talented kids in the state. The top name from the wing is 6’5 Kobe Julien of Madison Prep. Despite his size, he has guard like skills, and uses his body well to score in the paint. He is currently leading Louisiana Elite in minutes, and is second in scoring.
Right behind Kobe is 6’7 Devaughn Thomas of Comeaux. Despite his height, his game more resembles a guard that someone 6’7, that is unless he is attacking the rim looking to dunk. Then he might as well be 7’0. He has a smooth stroke from deep, and the questions about his toughness level have been asked less and less as he has gotten older. A player that no one can question his toughness is 6’4 Isaiah Lewis of Helen Cox. He is a bit of a tweener, not quite a guard but not quite a forward, but he has elite athleticism, and attacks the rim with ferocity. He is a college prospect for both football and basketball, and tells PHLA that his recruitment has been picking up more in football than basketball as of late.
After those three are a pair of AAU teammates playing for 6th Man, in 6’5 Braylon Chaisson and 6’6 Travonte Sam. Chaisson started high school playing mostly around the rim, but has expanded his range, and is now one of the most consistent three point shooters in the state, which pairs nicely with his elite athleticism. Sam is a great ball handler for his size, and an excellent defender. He can defend all five positions as well as anyone in the state, and is one of the top rim protectors of his class.
