Keon Ellis talks first state title, summer with Team MOAM and more
2018 wing Keon Ellis transferred over to Leesburg this past season. The move paid huge dividends.
The 6’5″, 160-pounder, previously at Eustis, was one of three Yellow Jackets to average 13 or more points this season on the way to a 23-6 record and a Class 6A state title.
Ellis averaged 13.1 points alongside 2018 guard Cordrayius Graham and 2019 guard Lance Erving. He scored in double digits in all but nine games on the season. Ellis dropped a season-high 26 points which included 8-of-9 free throws in a 70-64 state semifinal win over Ribault.
“We started 0-4 but we knew things would eventually go our way,” Ellis told Prep Hoops Florida. “The part of my game that grew the most was my efficiency on both ends. My role for this year is going to be to score the ball more and an even bigger role on the defensive end.”
Right now, Ellis has offers from Troy and Jacksonville. His goal this summer is to continue to better his game, earn more scholarships and to have fun. Ellis currently ranks No. 74 in our .
He also has interest from USF, Stetson, Robert Morris, Arkansas State, Arkansas Little Rock, Gardner Webb, Mercer, Canisius, Middle Tennessee State, UMass, Towson, UNC Asheville, Santa Clara and Youngstown State.
Ellis is running with Team M.O.A.M. this summer. He calls it his best AAU season because he’s been able to showcase his skills in front of college coaches.
He points to his ability to score at levels and rebounding as his biggest strengths. He’s aiming to improve his ballhandling.
His song of the summer to warm up to is Monday by Offset (Migos).
Ellis is long and fast. He gets to the hoop well before defenders can decide what to do. He proved time and time again that he’s a mismatch on the offensive end. His leaping ability gives him an edge on the glass on both sides of the ball as well. Look for Ellis to rack up more offers as a senior.
