Recruiting Roundup: John Newman
John Newman begins his official visit to Clemson University today after having one of the strongest performances of the spring. The 6-foot-6 Newman also had one of the top showings at the NBA Top 100 camp on the campus at The University of Virginia.
Newman is playing this spring/summer with Team CP3 on the Nike EYBL circuit and has been one of the top performers on the circuit so far.
Newman III has offers from Virginia, Clemson, Wake Forest, Cincinnati, James Madison, Georgia Tech, Providence, Charlotte, Boston College and Old Dominion.
Newman was integral in Greensboro Day’s run to a NCISAA 3-A State Championship in late February. He is ranked at the number 6 player in the PrepHoopsNC 2018 class. He is a skilled wing that is athletic, can rebound, block shots and get loose balls. The skilled combo-guard is athletic and can get off the floor in a hurry for blocks and rebounds. Needs to get better at defending and keeping his man in front of him. What is not mentioned a lot with Newman is his athletic ability and high basketball IQ.
This visit to Clemson is one of the five official visits that rising seniors can take in the recruiting process. Clemson is in need of a skilled, long wing that can come in and contribute right out of the gate. Newman has the tools to play in the ACC and I can see him fitting in well with former CP3 point guard Shelton Mitchell.
