Jackson Januik is a 5’9″, 155 lbs point guard who uses his stature as a strength, when most people would consider it a weakness. He’s a true point guard who has a high basketball IQ and is very deceptive. Next year he will be going to school and playing basketball at George Fox University. Jackson will do everything he can to improve his game and be a valuable asset for the Bruins.
He brings a wide range of skills to the court including speed, quickness, quick hands on defense, vision and passing, and a consistent 3 point shot. Januik is also not afraid to take it in against the bigs where he can finish well around the rim or dish it off to a teammate for an good look.
Perhaps Januik’s greatest quality is that he is a winner. He was the starting point guard for Seaside for four straight years leading them to a winning record each season. He led them to the playoffs each year where they finished in 7th place his freshman year, runner-up his junior year, and state champions his senior year. He was a three time Cowapa League MVP and a two time 4A state MVP. “I loved playing for seaside in high school and I will miss it, but I know George Fox will be a great experience for me and will open many doors for my future”.
Aside from basketball, Jackson has also had his fair share of success on the track. He is a three time 800 meter champion at the 4A level and he plans to continue his track career at George Fox after the basketball season.
Mako Hamilton, the head men’s basketball coach at George Fox, first noticed Jackson at the 2017 OSAA 4A State Championships in Forest Grove. He reached out to Januik after he led his team to a victory over Valley Catholic in the state championship game. “I was very interested in George Fox right away. After visiting the school, meeting the coaches, playing in open gym, I knew it was the perfect fit for me”.
Jackson achieved a 3.85 GPA in high school and knows he will achieve similar successes in the classroom at George Fox. “George Fox has great educational programs and I know that by going there I’ll be able to get my degree and be very knowledgeable in whatever field I’m in”. Basketball is a major passion of Jackson’s and he plans to maintain that passion in his future career and through the rest of his life. “I can’t imagine my life without basketball being apart of it. I know I’ll stay involved and find a way to spread my passion for the game”.
