Gunns shines at OBU Team Camp
CJ Gunns is not a name that was known before this weekend at Oklahoma Baptist Team Camp. By the time the camp ended his name was clearly known and for good reason. Gunns is a prospect that has played Class B basketball for Paden through his high school career and has not played grassroots basketball leaving him unnoticed by many.
Gunns is a 6’1 Guard with good athleticism and toughness. The motor of Gunns ran non-stop on both ends is what sticks out initially. He has some grit to his game that just seems to never stop. Gunns is best in transition getting out and finishing in at the rim.
He thrived using his quickness to get to the basket. Paden runs a system that caters to Gunns game. When the ball gets rebounded two Guards immediately run the floor. The big gets the ball in the hands of the other Guard who sticks behind and he throws it deep down the court, often for an open lay up.
What separates Gunns from a lot of players in Oklahoma is his ability to be a defensive pest. Several times players drove in only for Gunns to sky in the air and block their shot out of bounds. The leaping skills of Gunns are special.
Gunns projects to the NAIA D2 to JUCO level. He may be a known player by the time next March comes along with Paden looking like a state tournament team.
