Studying the DeMatha Stags roster for this coming season, some of the teams players may see their wish come true in the future like Markelle & be selected in the NBA draft. DeMatha has been a Washington, DC powerhouse in basketball since Naismith Memorial Hall of Fame Coach & legend Morgan Wooten became Head Coach in the 1956. This upcoming seasons roster is not finalized, but we will discuss the players who we know will see playing time for DeMatha.
Bobby Carson, 6’4″, WG, 2019.
Bobby is a very talented wing who can score from all 3 levels and defend. We will have a Recruiting Report for Bobby this week.
Carsten Kolgenik, 6’5″ WG, 2019.
Carsten really came on last season and he was a knockdown shooter from the wings. This summer we have seen him take the ball to basket and shoot off the dribble. We will have a Recruiting Report for Carsten this coming week.
Hunter Dickinson, 6’11”, C, 2020.
Hunter was just ranked as the #8 player in the nation by ESPN for 2020, and honor well deserved. He is very versatile with excellent fundamentals and footwork. Hunter has an array of post moves and will mix it up on the glass, a very hard worker and can be an enforcer. We have a Recruiting Report for Hunter very shortly.
Justin Gielen, PG/CG, 6’0″, 2018.
Justin had big year for DeMatha last year and made many clutch plays. He is a winner, a very, very good ball handler and can knock down shots. We will be providing a recruiting for Justin this coming week.
Jamel Melvin, 6’8″,F, 2019.
We have Jamel improve from last year thru hard work. He is very smooth, can rebound and score from 18 feet in. We will have a Recruiting Report for Jamel within the next week.
Justin Moore, 6’4″, CG, 2019.
We recently wrote an article about Justin who is recovering well from ACL surgery. He is a great talent and ranked in the 50 players nationally, but once healed will move higher. We will write another article for Justin once he starts scrimmaging or shortly before. Please see the link below.
Deven Richmond, 6’4″, WG, 2018.
Deven is a fantastic athlete with great size and could very well breakout this season. He showed some great flashes last year and has looked very good this summer. We will be writing a recruiting Report for Deven very shortly who has the all around skills needed for a D1 recruit.
Paul Smith, 6’8″, F, 2020.
Paul played on the varsity last season as a freshmen which speaks volumes. He will be a key player this season a bug key to DeMatha’s success, some say an X factor. He is very skilled and can play inside out, and he is developing at vary good pace. Paul has great upside and we will have a recruiting for Paul very shortly.
Earl Timberlake, 6’5″, CG, 2020.
Earl is going to be ranked very high in the 2020 rankings and he has 5 star potential. The lefty will play some PG and WG for DeMatha and in our opinion will start. Earl is very crafty and gets in the paint easily breaking down his defender and he can defend. We will provide a Recruiting Report for Earl this coming week.
DeMatha has the potential to be a top 20 nationally ranked team this season. However, everything must come together and we pray as with all our players in the nation they stay injury free. In addition to playing in WCAC which we believe is the best basketball conference in the nation, the Stags will play a very tough national schedule.
