Class of 2019 Wing Stock Risers
Which shooting guards and small forward helped their stock the most in the latest PrepHoopsIllinois 2019 rankings? We dive into that right now!
Martin Macenis (Stagg)
Previous Rank: #47
Current Rank: #12
Macenis is a big wing from Stagg that opened our eyes last summer on the 15U level. Solid high school season, but really came into his own this spring for ET21 Buckeyes. The 6’5” small forward is a versatile prospect that can score at all three levels. European type game with the ability to handle and shoot.
Deng Reng (Wheaton North)
Previous Rank: #33
Current Rank: #20
Deng is a long and rangy 6’6” small forward that is extremely projectable. Flashed as a sophomore when we saw him, but had several standout moments this spring with ET21. Skilled forward that runs the floor well and has developmental upside.
Keeshawn Chambers (Solorio)
Previous Rank: #56
Current Rank: #21
Chambers is about elite of an athlete as you get! Freak show athlete in transition that plays above the rim with ease. Dominated at the PrepHoops showcase back at the beginning of the spring. Not only did he put on a jam fest, but his defense and rebounding set him apart.
Dajuan Gordon (Curie)
Previous Rank: NR
Current Rank: #25
First game I evaluated this shooting guard he dropped 37 points and was about as on fire as you can be from three point range. Thin and wiry wing that can fill it up from deep. Smooth range on jump shot that can hit them both pulling up and is lethal off the catch. Shows flashes of scoring off the bounce and in transition. Should emerge this year for Curie.
CJ Benton (De La Salle)
Previous Rank: NR
Current Rank: #29
Benton is a name we had heard a lot about over the last year, but hadn’t got a solid eval on him. This spring we were able to see him multiple times and came away impressed. The 6’5” fluid wing can really let it fly from deep. Quality athlete that gets out in transition and finishes. Has the physical tools to be a nice defender at the next level.
Michael Salter (Romeoville)
Previous Rank: #77
Current Rank: #32
Salter broke out this spring! He was great at the PrepHoops camp to begin the spring where he showed off his versatile game. Plus wing passer that plays with flare. Solid jumper shooter and can also handle it some off the bounce. One to watch with Meanstreets 16U in July.
Landon Wolfe (Effingham)
Previous Rank: #84
Current Rank: #40
Wolf had a productive sophomore season, but was in the shadow of his brother and another D2 signee at Effingham. It is now his time to shine. The 6’5” small forward from southern Illinois plays with a great motor and scores going to the hoop.
Austin Gates (Bartlett)
Previous Rank: NR
Current Rank: #66
Gates put himself on our radar late in the spring with Mercury Elite. The Bartlett two guard really gets after it on the defensive end. Anticipates and gets his hands on passes. Tough on ball defender as well. Flashes scoring ability that can be developed even more!
