Class of 2019 Top PGs
Who are the best point guards in the rising junior class? We look at the top floor generals here.
Kejuan Clements (Simeon)
Overall Rank: #7
Travel Team: Mac Irvin Fire
The Simeon 2019 point guard has quietly become the most productive backcourt player for the Fire 16U squad. He is starting to get the mentality to attack! Clements got to the rack when we saw him this spring. Played downhill and found the creases in the defense. Clements also rebounds. Solid distributor that is more of a scoring point at this stage. Mid-major prospect.
Donavan Moore (Hillsboro)
Overall Rank: #9
Travel Team: Illinois Irish
Moore has an angular body with super long arms. Slippery through traffic getting skinny on his drives to the hoop. Gets in the lane at will! Pull up jump shooter from mid-range that shoots it balanced and with quality form. Showed the point guard skill early this spring we thought he had the potential to develop. Still makes some mental mistakes now and then, but has definitely improved. Mid-major prospect.
Joseph Yesufu (Bolingbrook)
Overall Rank: #11
Travel Team: Meanstreets
The Bolingbrook lead guard was a key player for Bolingbrook in their run to a final four appearance. He has taken it up another notch this spring with Meanstreets 16U. Yesufu has outstanding speed in the open floor blowing by defenders. He takes and makes tough shots at the rim. One of the best layup makers in the 2019 class in Illinois. Explosive at the rim despite his height being able to finish above the hoop. Yesufu is a good passer that turns it over a bit, but makes way more plays to the positive. Should be considered by mid-major programs.
Dashon Enoch (OPRF)
Overall Rank: #15
Travel Team: Made Men
He has size and strength that make him a powerful lead guard. Enoch knows how to utilize his physical gifts to affect the game. He can drive with the best of them with a quick initial burst that allows him to get to the rim where he finishes well through contact. Biggest area of improvement in his game is his perimeter shot. Used to be a streaky shooter, but looked much more comfortable pulling up from three when we saw him with Made Men. Learning how to use screens in the pick and roll better. Rebounds well in traffic for a guard. Tough pit bull of a combo that is projecting as a low-major D1 prospect.
Marquise Walker (Curie)
Overall Rank: #19
The 6’0” lead guard from St. Joseph’s is a quality ball handler that has the rock on a string. At times he can over dribble, but also makes defenders look silly in stretches. Walker gets to the hoop with power drives where he combines his strength to overpower defenders and slick ball handling. Good body control around the hoop to finish through traffic. A lot of his scoring is one on one off the bounce. Very ball dominant guard. Jump shot has definitely improved since last season. Passes it with flare in a high risk/high reward fashion. Right now he is a low-major prospect.
Chris Roberts (Lincoln Park)
Overall Rank: #23
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Roberts is a downhill and attacking point guard. Over and over and over again he goes right at his man and scores at the rim. Quick first step allows him to get in the lane consistently. That speed translates into the open court as well. He blows past defenders and most of the time is looking to go right to the hoop for a score. Does a nice job of finishing through contact. Next step in development is rounding out game with a jumper and dishing the rock more. Potential LM prospect.
Tyler Cochran (Bolingbrook)
Overall Rank: #24
Travel Team: Hoopers Basketball Club
This Bolingbrook combo guard shot the ball the best we have ever seen him consistently do it during the spring. He drilled catch and shoot threes for days! Also hit a few pulling up. Smooth mechanics and when he is rhythm is a major weapon with his three ball. When scoring off the bounce is best on straight line drives to the hoop. Pushes it in transition with the ball in his hands and can score filling the lane as well. More of a combo than a refined point at this stage. Does flash drive and kick ability. Defensively really gets after it and competes on that end of the floor. Elevated his stock a lot in our eyes this past weekend. Should be monitored by low-major/D2 programs.
Jeremiah Washington (Bogan)
Overall Rank: #28
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
The explosive Bogan point guard has so much speed. Killer cross over and is a very tough cover for defenders to stay in front of. Makes his living in the lane finding teammates for dump off passes, but most of the time converts acrobatic layups at the rim. Makes tough layups on a consistent basis. Little wild with the ball at times, but you take that with his playmaking ability. As a passer Washington makes fantastic dishes. This 2019 is going to make a lot of noise at Bogan this year.
Artese Stapleton (Kenwood)
Overall Rank: #33
Travel Team: Young & Reckless
Stapleton certainly helped his stock late in the spring with his play for Young & Reckless 16U. What you have to like about his game is his combination of scoring and dishing. More of a natural passer than his backcourt running mate as he mostly handles the duties on the ball. Electric passer especially when he gets in the lane to find others. High IQ guard that plays fast, but makes quality decisions. Speed in the open floor. Capable shooter that can hit a pull up from mid-range and three. Should be on LM and D2 radar.
Bryce Bultman (Nashville)
Overall Rank: #41
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
Bultman projects as one of the better guard prospects in southern Illinois the next two seasons. First aspect that stands out is size for position. He is a legit 6’4” and a true point guard. He has an outstanding feel for the game. Plus vision in the half court making sound decisions with the ball in his hands. Just an advanced basketball IQ. Ability to hit a three off the catch and is active on the defensive end of the floor. Bultman will be the motor that makes Nashville go the next two years on a young and talented small school squad! Bultman really impressed and projects as a D2 player at this stage.
