Au’diese Toney is headed to Trinity Christian
Trinity Christian School has just added another special player to their 2019 Class in 6’5 Guard Au’diese Toney who has transferred in from Northwood Temple. At the conclusion of the school year Trinity would lose 2019 Star Guard Josh Nickelberry as he transferred to Oak Hill Academy which would leave some big shoes to fill at the Guard Spot. Nickelberry was a top scorer for the squad last year and was consistently productive for the team regardless of who they played, with his departure there was a question of who could come in and help feel the void that would be left.
Well with the new addition of Au’diese Toney, Trinity is taking steps in the right direction to try and fill the void by committee and return to the State Championship again as they did in 2016. Toney played last season at Northwood Temple and had a solid season, he got better as the year went along and seemed to get more comfortable. Over the summer he has been playing with Team Felton, teaming up with some of his future high school teammates in some competitive games and tournaments around the state and region.
What does he do well?
The first thing you notice about him is his size for a guard, he’s in the 6’5-6’6 range with a nice long wingspan and may even grow another inch or two before it’s all said and done. He has solid athletic ability and can score the ball at a decent rate, however he looks to get other involved first which should work well as he looks to mesh with the new squad. With the return of Greg Gantt, Joey Baker, Talton Jones and K.J Marshall we can see that team has quite a few weapons and having a player that looks to get others involved is very beneficial. Only time will tell how everything will fall into place and who else may end up transferring in to Trinity but this is a very solid pickup for the Crusaders and only makes the squad that much stronger.
