Breakdown: This class of point guards is really good. For small school programs, they should be able to get their leader of the future with a lot of these guys.
Guys like Tyler Watson, Jalan Mull, Brigham Booe are all great leaders on the floor. Watson is one of the more coveted leaders right now as he provides toughness and plenty of scoring ability with good size on the perimeter. Mull is a difference-maker as a pass-first point guard but he commands so much attention and is able to make the offense flow. Booe is a tough lead guard who can produce on offense. He’s a guy, though, that can lead by example.
On the higher end, you have guys like Robin Duncan, Robert Phinisee, and Mekhi Lairy. Phinisee is as good as you can find in the state with the ball in his hands. Great creator, toughness, and good jumper. Duncan has the size and versatility where you can play him in a bunch of different ways. Lairy is a grinder who lacks size but plays as tough as they come and can score the ball.
A couple names to watch as risers this summer are Trey Davis, Jeremy Davison, and Dylan Penn. Davis has that leadership quality that his teammates can use as an example. He’s also a pretty good shooter from behind the arc. Davison is a long, skinny guard but that lack of strength doesn’t slow him down. Good on the defensive end too. Penn is a guy that has grown this past year and has a good perimeter jumper and length to be bothersome on the other end of the floor.
