Southern Jam Fest 2018 Stock Boosters Part 1
HAMPTON, VA — Southern Jam Fest is in the books, and many players made strong statements in an event packed with top notch talent. Below we highlight a few players who boosted their stock with a consistently strong run of play over the weekend.
SADDIQ BEY | DC PREMIER
Saddiq Bey has seen his stock this spring, and should continue to do so after turning in a strong performance for DC Premier. The 6’7 swing man is a talented scorer from all areas of the floor, and rebounds well from his position. Bey is hearing from a handful of high major schools, and has been one of the biggest stock risers in the area.
JOSH CORNISH | TEAM MELO RED
Calvert Hall sharpshooting guard Josh Cornish once again showed that he can be counted on in the clutch. Cornish was seen flying in for an offensive rebound, and tipped in a miss to clinch a win for his team at the buzzer. The 6’2 scorer is a catch and shoot expert, but is also adept at breaking down defenders and creating room for his jumper.
JORDAN GIBSON | HIGHER LEVEL
Not many people nationally knew who Jordan Gibson was heading into this weekend, but almost everyone knew his name after his breakout performance vs. Team Wall. Gibson was a huge reason why Higher Level had a double digit lead in the second half. His ability to score from all levels, along with his momentum changing dunk in traffic were just two reasons why he raised his stock.
EVERETTE HAMMOND | DC PREMIER
Everette Hammond shot the lights out over the weekend. The 6’3 guard hit 4 of 5, and 3 of 4 from downtown in the two games we saw him play. Hammond moves well off the ball, and has a quick release on his jumper. Hammond showcased explosiveness off the bounce, and aggression when attacking the rim in traffic.
JERMAINE HARRIS | DC PREMIER
When we first saw Jermaine Harris at the Metro Challenge last spring, he made a terrific first impression. The skilled, hard working, and extremely competitive 6’10 big man only continues to improve, and has cemented his status as a high major prospect and one of the best big men in the area. Harris has begun to gain national recognition for his strong play, and is on his well on his way to being one of the best bigs in the country.
KEYONTAE JOHNSON | BOO WILLIAMS
Keyontae Johnson had us all holding our breath with his high flying acrobatics and game changing dunks. The long & lanky wing plays much bigger than his listed height, and can also shoot the ball very well from deep. Johnson was key in Boo Williams’ signature win vs. Team Loaded VA this weekend, and should to continue to elevate his play as the summer commences.
