Recruiting Report: Travonte Sam (2018)
Louisiana’s 15th-ranked 2018, David Thibodaux wing Travonte Sam is in the middle of his final grassroots season, and seems to be on the verge of possibly picking up his first Division I offer.
The 6-foot-6 slasher says there’s three programs that have been in contact with him, including two in-state D1s.
“Right now I got UNO and I also got Northwestern State (showing interest), and I got another Division I school showing interest, but I forgot the name of it,” said Sam.
“By the end of the summer I’m hoping I have more schools not just showing interest, but offering. I’m trying to play Division I, I really want to, and hopefully I can get there.”
Sam says getting to the hoop is a strength of his, and when he gets there he’s equally adept at scoring or dishing out to teammates.
“When it comes to my strengths, I think I drive the ball pretty well, and I think I impact the game a lot with my vision; I can get my teammates the ball,” said Sam.
“And I can shoot, but I prefer driving to the hoop and getting to the free-throw line. And I’m a good rebounder too, last season I averaged eight rebounds per game, but when I got into double-digits, we usually won the game.”
In addition to his eight rebounds per game, he netted 15 points, and says he’ll need to focus even more on scoring next season with the Bulldogs.
“My role was to score and facilitate at the same time, and play defense. Next season I want to improve in my offensive versatility, and learn how to impact the game in a different ways,” said Sam. “I’m really going to be the main guy next year, so I’m really going to have to put the ball in the hoop.”
Before his senior season though, he’ll be competing this spring and summer with 6th Man’s 17U squad.
“This summer I’m expecting to get better, get recruiters in, and I want us to win as many tournaments as we can,” said Sam.
