Recruiting Report: Ryan Rose (2018)
Looking at the ascent of Ryan Rose’s (2018) recruitment over these last couple months, it’s safe to say he’s “emerging.” The Las Vegas native came into Bethel Tipp City last November, and has since drawn the interest of a number of Midwest colleges, in great thanks to his jump shot.
“I made a list of everyone who’s ever talked to me, directly talked to either my high school coach or AAU coach, or followed my profile on FieldLevel. It goes, Ohio Dominican, Capital, Baldwin Wallace, John Carroll, Rose Hulman, Urbana, Concordia Chicago, Concordia Ann Arbor, Crown College, Cedarville, Findlay, Maranatha Baptist, Bluefield State, Davis College, and George Fox Univeristy,” Rose said.
Now, there’s obviously a lot to chew on with the list above. The 6’0” OEBA-Purple combo guard is undoubtedly on some college radars with his incredulous spring performance. Yet, there’s levels to the list above.
“[Capital] was the first school to talk to me, at our very first AAU tournament,” Rose said.
“I’ve talked to Capital in person. And a couple coaches have DM’ed me. But I haven’t really talked to too many directly. They talk to my coaches about me, and then my coaches tell me about it. So nobody is really, like, sticking out right now. Just kind of waiting it out to see what happens.”
“I’m going to try to set up two [visits] to the Concordias, because one invited me to their Elite Camp and said he could show me around the campus. But, I can’t make their Elite Camp, because I’ll be out of town. So, I’m trying to set up a visit with him. And then the one in Chicago invited me directly on a visit, so I’m going to try and go,” Rose said.
Whenever Rose inevitably takes his visit to a campus this summer, it’ll be the first he’s experienced. However, he did paint us a picture of how he’d like his college experience to look.
“If I like the school, the surroundings, if I get along with the coaching staff and could see myself playing with them for four years, and if I’m going to get on the court — I don’t really want to go to college and sit on the bench for three years and play as a senior. I want to make a difference. I also want to have a good college experience. So I want it to be the right school, where if something happened that I couldn’t play basketball any more, I’d still be happy and want to go there,” Rose said.

In order to build upon his current game, Rose is hoping to quicken his first step. Combining that ability with his extremely respected jumper could open up driving lanes, kick-outs, and pull-ups. He’s also working on athleticism, to compliment his penetration ability.
For the remainder of summer and beyond, expect Rose to continue drawing eye-balls with his consistency and efficiency. The kid already had some sidelines buzzing this spring, so expect more of the same to come.
