Recruiting Report: Randy Gladney (2018)
Louisiana’s 11th-ranked 2018, 6-foot-8 forward Randy Gladney has four offers in tow as he heads into his final summer with Houston Defenders.
Others may be on the horizon for the talented DeRidder senior-to-be.
Lafayette, Tulsa, New Orleans, and McNeese State all offered last offseason, and there’s a few more which have been speaking with him of late.
“University of Lafayette has been talking to me mostly every day. UTSA has been talking to me, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley,” said Gladney.
One interesting development is the interest he’s received from VCU.
“I was at a game in Houston, and I had a chase-down block from half-court, and he (VCU coach) was recruiting a player on my team, and he got my number from that player to talk to me,” said Gladney.
The big and versatile wing has been working to improve his perimeter skill-set, and says he’ll likely be used as a stretch-four at the next level.
“I’ve been playing on the wing mostly. And playing the four and the three and shooting the ball a lot more, and working on my ball-handling a lot more and stuff like that,” said Gladney.
After a first team all-district junior season at DeRidder, while averaging 15 points, 12.5 rebounds and 3 blocks per game, Gladney is hoping to sharpen his leadership skills this offseason.
“Next season I want to be a better leader, be more vocal and lead by example,” said Gladney, who will hone those skills with Houston Defenders 17U this July.
“I’m just working on having a high-motor with them, and when I’m on the floor, giving it all that I got.”
He added: “One of my main goals is the make the Under Armour All-American Camp, and just to get more offers.”
