Recruiting Report: Peter Timmerman (2018)
Versatility is the name of the game for 6-foot-6 small forward Peter Timmerman, and the Wahlert senior-to-be has caught the eye of college programs far and wide because of it.
It’s been mostly Midwest D3s and NAIAs paying attention to him, but one New York D3 has been getting in the mix of late.
“The University of Rochester is calling me, they’re from New York. And also Oshkosh in Wisconsin, St. Ambrose, Mount Mercy, Augustana (IL), Viterbo (WI),” said Timmerman, who highlighted his Rochester interest.
“They were at the first tournament in Milwaukee, an NY2LA, and both of their coaches played basketball in Iowa, so they definitely have some connections here.”
The big and physical forward was good last season as a junior with a Wahlert squad that came on late in the season — it was his versatility that really made him a standout.
“This season in high school, I played the one through the five, so I really got a chance to experience a lot of different positions. But I think I’m most well-suited for the three or the four,” said Timmerman.
“I think my size allows me to play anywhere, and I can be a good piece for any team I play for, and that’s really shown true with Wahlert and then the Mavs this summer.”
Timmerman averaged 11.2 points and 4.5 rebounds per game last winter, and helped the Golden Eagles to some moderate late-season success.
“This season, I thought it was a little rough, it was a big challenge playing in a senior-laden MVC. I feel like we proved what kind of a team we were at the end of the season when we made a little run,” said Timmerman.
“I’d definitely say I was a leader on that team, and I kind of wish I did more throughout the season. I think I could have done more throughout the regular season and the offseason.”
He’s playing with one of Iowa’s best squads, Iowa Mavs Purple, this spring and summer. And is one of the team’s most key pieces.
“This is a fun summer for me, it’s my fifth or sixth year playing with the program, so I’m definitely a leader on that team on both sides of the ball, and I just like to do whatever the team needs me to,” said Timmerman.
“I’d like to get some D2 offers this summer, and just continue my role as a leader on my team.”
