Recruiting Report: Makhi Mitchell (2019)
When you look at Makhi Mitchell, a sophomore forward at Bishop McNamara, it doesn’t take long to recognize why he’s considered the area’s top 2019 prospect. Mitchell is a skilled 6’9, and boats a powerful frame to go along with a nice blend of athleticism and touch.
“Kind of an inside out, outside player. Leadership. Getting everybody involved including myself and my brother,” Mitchell explained.
A native of Southeast Washington D.C., Mitchell recalls playing the game for the first time around age six. We wrote about Mitchell’s younger twin brother, Makhel, last month. The twins are being recruited by the same teams, and have plans of attending school together.
“Packade deal with my brother. To be honest, it doesn’t matter where we end up as long as its a good environment for us,” Mitchell said about a potential destination. “Good coaching staff. Good relationship. Somewhere that I can fit in.”
Georgetown, MD, PSU, VT, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, and most recently DePaul are the schools who have offered the Mitchell twins. Arizona, Kentucky, and North Carolina are among those reportedly expressing interest. While Mitchell is currently producing at a high level, he knows his production can increase if he continues to work.
“I’ve gotten better on defense. Defending guards. Rebounding. Blocking shots. Not getting fouls. Getting in shape,” Mitchell, said. “I need to continue to work on my body. Agility. Staying in shape. Being able to run up and down constantly. Developing more of a post game.”
What does Mitchell think he can bring to a college program?
“Leadership. My presence Getting everybody involved. Being vocal, and learning.”
