Recruiting Report: Kamden Gipson (2018)
Kamden Gipson has had a breakout summer showing off his steady defense and underrated scoring ability. Gipson has stepped his game up and has become one of the fastest rising prospects in the 2018 class.
Gipson is the lead guard for Edmond Santa Fe and he showed throughout the high school season that he had intriguing potential. However, this summer Gipson has enjoyed much success so far with the OK Power program.
“So far my AAU season has good,” Gipson said. “I’m on a good team with great teammates and we’re winning being 33-3 on the year.”
The OK Power 17U Elite have one of the most talented rosters in the state. They have 8 of the Top 50 players in the state.
Gipson has found himself on a talented team but his attributes are beginning to shine more and more with each game.
At 5’11, you don’t think Gipson as much of a scorer. He quickly gets the “small feisty defender” label that many of guards his size are stuck with.
Gipson can score in bunches which was evident when he exploded for 8 straight points in a huge win over OK Run PWP 17U at the 2017 Prep Hoops State Tournament.
Those type of scoring burst are common from him. In a game with multiple D1 prospects, Gipson was one of the best players on the floor.
Using his smooth jumper and crafty finishing abilities, the 2018 guard has become a star in his role for the Power. “This summer I think that I have been a good role player for the team,” Gipson said.
“Coming off the bench running the point efficiently and doing whatever else I have to do to help the team come out with the victory.”
With a breakout summer, Gipson is looking forward to using this momentum when he steps on the court for the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves for his senior season. Leadership is where he wants to excel the most.
“I’m looking forward to becoming a better leader,” Gipson said. “A good leader can take a team far and that’s what I want to do.”
“Next season will be good one for Santa Fe,” he said.
Gipson has not received much attention from college coaches yet but he has played well enough this summer to put himself on the map.
Gipson projects as a MM D2 point guard. Either as a starter or sixth man, he has what it take to run a team and he can score tough baskets when needed.
