Recruiting Report: Josh Sipes (2018)
Bismarck Century/ECI Prospects guard Josh Sipes has a history of winning and competing and this weekend he led ECI to a weekend championship in West Fargo.
ECI won six games over the weekend and built their record to 14-6 on the year giving them a 70 percent winning percentage this season. Josh has enjoyed his time playing with the Prospects.
“AAU is just a really good experience in general, you play against some of the best competition in the country,” Josh said. “I think playing against people more athletic or quicker than you is the biggest challenge.
“I think what I’ve learned from this level of play is every game is a grind and can come down to the last play. No matter who you play, you have to give it your all.”
Sipes led a balanced Century team in scoring this year with 13.6 points and 45 rebounds per game. The Patriots finished 22-5 this season earning second place in the state tournament.
“I think one of my greatest growths would be on defense,” Josh said “I figured out how to guard on the perimeter and keep my guy from getting to the basket. Also, my three pointing shooting improved a lot from last year.
“I think some experiences that I will never forget are playing in a state championship and all the memories made with my teammates, those things last a lifetime.”
As a senior Sipes will be the unquestioned leader of Bismarck Century and for that role Josh is working to make his offensive game even more well rounded.
“I think the main thing I’m looking to improve is my ball handling,” Sipes said. “My focus this summer is going to be working on counter moves and my dribble drive game. I also am hoping to improve my overall strength in the weight room before the season starts up as well.”
Several college programs are calling on Sipes after watching him closely in April and May (in addition to over the winter).
“I’m hearing from U of Mary, Jamestown, Minot State, Valley City State, U of Sioux Falls, and Minnesota State-Moorhead. I’m planning on visiting most of these schools at some point in time.”
