Recruiting Report: Jordan Magnani (2018)
Mount Pleasant guard Jordan Magnani is having about as solid of a spring as anyone we at PHIA have seen, and he’s hoping that success can translate into college interest this summer.
The 6-foot 2018 is hearing initial interest from some in-state programs, and says D2s have made introductory contact as well.
“Not many schools have contacted me, a few D2s and NAIAs have made some initial contact, but it’s been mostly D3s sending me letters so far,” said Magnani.
He specifically mentioned University of Dubuque, Grand View and Coe as three schools that have been after him so far.
“The D2s and NAIAs have just made the initial contact, and haven’t looked at me too much yet, but I’m hoping that since I’ve been playing well this spring and at camps, that I’ll hopefully get some more looks as the summer goes on.”
His junior season with the Panthers took him on a path to Wells Fargo Arena, where he and his team lost in the quarterfinals to Cedar Rapids Xavier.
Magnani was good, averaging 12 points per game to go along with a co-team-best 4.8 assists. He says next year an objective is to shoot the ball better.
“I thought I did pretty well; I didn’t do as well as I wanted to scoring-wise or rebounding-wise, but my assists numbers went up quite a bit,” he said. “I don’t think I forced anything, and I always got my teammates involved, someone always had the hot hand on my team.
He added: “This year I didn’t really shoot well, so I’ve been getting in the gym and getting a lot of shots up; mostly 3s and pull-up jumpers. And this summer, I’ve been shooting the hell out of the ball, and all that work has really been paying off.
“I’ve always been good at attacking and getting shots on the inside, so once I got better at shooting, it’s just been helping me out a lot more.”
This spring and summer he’s playing with 17U Iowa Prep, and can be seen this summer showcasing his talents with a busy grassroots schedule.
“I feel like I’m kind of the leader on the team, I run the point a lot,” said Magnani. “We have a good team this year, and we like eachother and get along.”
