Recruiting Report: Jaxson Strates (2018)
2018 Lake Highland Prep forward Jaxson Strates can really shoot the ball.
Strates has a knack of making big jumpers and finding ways to create for his teammates.
The Highlanders went 18-12 this season which included a Class 4A region semifinal appearance. Strates plays the four spot at Lake Highland Prep. This is what the 6’8″, 205-pounder says he learned from his junior campaign.
“This season I learned how to capitalize on my teammate’s strengths and how to play inside out as well as learning how important ball movement is to the game,” Strates told Prep Hoops Florida. “The part of my game that grew the most is attacking from the wing and mid-range jumpers.”
He’s playing with the Q6 All Stars Elite for the third straight summer. Strates says he’s focused on improving his outside game and trying to get more offers.
He called Q6 an amazing program that is competitive and has a family like atmosphere.
Strates began his basketball life at age 4. He pointed to his rebounding and finish in the low and high post as his biggest strengths. He’s looking to improve his ball handling and being more consistent on his 3-pointers.
He currently has offers from Air Force and Colgate.
Strates also has drawn interest from the likes of Denver, Mercer, Navy, Westpoint, Furman, Princeton, Brown, MIT, Cornell, Lafayette, Bucknell, American, Lipscomb, UNCW, Rice, University of Portland, New Hampshire and Drexel.
This kid is long and shows a bright IQ when in rhythm. He can get going in a hurry and I think as he continues to improve his all-around game, the more attention he’ll draw. Strates is a 2018 forward to keep an eye on.
Film study: Strates shows off his range at the Tampa May Day Hoopfest.
