Recruiting Report: Damari Monsanto (2019)
2019 forward Damari Monsanto is a pure shooter.
A few weeks ago, the 6’5″, 195-pounder transferred from Mater Academy Charter to American Heritage. He says he wanted to be an environment with smaller classes and teachers that can give you one-on-one attention.
Monsanto says he learned a lot last season under head coach Shakey Rodriguez at Mater including how to better his overall defense.
He’s running with the Florida Vipers this summer where he’s aiming to earn more scholarships.
“No UAA team works like the Vipers,” Monsanto told Prep Hoops Florida. “We have our own facility with great coaches so yeah it is really good.”
Starting his basketball life at age 4, Monsanto played baseball and football at the same time. Right now, he’s focused exclusively on basketball.
He said his biggest strengths are his ability to score from anywhere and his defensive ability. Monsanto is aiming to improve his rebounding and leadership on the floor.
Currently, he has offers from Kansas State and Texas Tech. Both of those came last week. He also has interest from Butler, Memphis and Tulane.
Growing in height over the past year has given Monsanto an extra edge as a shooting guard/wing. His shooting ability has always been a strength and as he continues to attack more, the better he’ll be. He’s in for a big summer and junior season.
