Recruiting Report: Craig Burt (2018)
After watching Craig Burt (2018), a 6’4” athletic guard, run around like crazy on defense and show impressive communication skills for Hidden Gems Orange two weekends ago, we’re surprised he’s not being recruited as a basketball prospect.
“My coaches say that the colleges come in and talk. But as far as I know, nobody has really– I mean, they’ve reached out to me about attending their camps, but as far as I know, nothing really serious,” Burt said.
Burt will attend the Findlay team camp with Centennial High School, along with playing in a summer league.
Additionally in June, the dual-sport athlete will be showing off his talents as a wide receiver to some colleges. While interest hasn’t presented itself byway of the hardwood, college football programs have inquired about Burt.
“There’s like five colleges. He didn’t really name them off, but [coach] said there’s like five colleges right now that came in. Actually there’s one college that came in and talked to him, Georgetown,” Burt said.
“Football recruitment is heavier than basketball at this time.”
As far as what interests Burt on a personal level, he’s really just looking for a medium-sized campus that feels right. He also clarified that he’s not dead-set on a particular sport.
“I just want to keep looking hard at both of them. Just in case, whichever one looks like the best fit for me. Take some visits whenever I get the chance to see where I’ll be the most successful,” Burt said.
Keeping an open-mind as a dual-sport athlete seems to be the wise move here. Burt is underrated as a basketball player. He’s a true perimeter offensive player, who has a solid pull-up jumper and off-ball instincts. Defensively, he plays incredibly hard and has the tools to excel in many defensive schemes.
Not to mention, Burt would be a quality addition to any locker room.
“Me as a basketball player and as a person, I feel like I’m a genuine type person. I want everybody to succeed on my team. I want everybody to be successful. I’m a person that likes to pass the ball. I like to be the energy guy,” Burt explained.
Going forward, Burt should enter the radar of local small colleges, and any others who recruit the Columbus-area.
In order to eventually earn a spot on one of these teams though, Burt understands there’s areas that need improvement.
“This year, [my grades] were alright — like 2.6 to 2.7. But right now, this semester right now, is going pretty good. I don’t really know my accumulative right now, because we’re kind of doing finals right now,” Burt said.
On the court, Burt is hoping to improve his jumper and mentality, as he tends to put too much pressure to succeed on himself pre-game, referring to himself as “his own biggest critic.”
