Peebles High School senior Camron Gordley (2017) ended his high school career two months ago, but not before making a huge impact for Peebles basketball. He ended his career scoring his 1,000th point this past season, being named to 2nd Team All State, and 1st Team all-SHAC just to name a few. Several schools have shown interest in this post player and for good reason.
What makes Gordley a great player is his ability to overpower his opponents. “I can score based on my opponent’s weaknesses…I also play a very physical game that goes along well with my basketball I.Q.”. Gordley is a fantastic rebounder and has a solid inside offensive game. He averaged a double-double with 22 PPG and 12 RBG this past season. He still wants to improve on his outside shooting before next season and make his opponents “respect his ability to shoot the ball outside”. If he can improve on this before heading to college in August, Gordley has the potential to be a top-notch inside-out player.
Gordley’s high school, Peebles, is located in a small town in Adams County, Ohio. I talked with him about the uniqueness of Adams County and how basketball is huge down there. “Peebles is such a rural community and tight knit, it’s almost like one big family…the town is always behind your back”. One of the most dangerous atmospheres at any level of basketball is the fan base. Small towns/communities tend to bring more of a crowd to games and Peebles is no exception. This creates problems for opposing teams, especially teams not used to crowds like this.
Gordley has some high expectations for next season at the collegiate level. “Going into college next year, I have the expectations to get my feet wet and adapt to the competition level of where I’m going…my overall goal is winning and I will contribute to my team in whatever way the coaches ask me to”.
Several schools have offered Gordley for August. Some include: Mount St. Joseph’s, Rio Grande, Heidelberg, Malone, Marietta, and Wilmington. With Gordley’s size and physical mentality, he has the potential to start as a freshman. Keep an eye on this young man in the coming months.
