Recruiting report: Bol Bol (2018)
ATLANTA, Ga. — One of the biggest risers in last week’s EYBL session in Atlanta is Kansas City native Bol Bol.
With Shaquille O’Neal, Kenyon Martin, Scottie Pippen and other NBA alumni on hand, Bol wowed with his play, at one point drawing Martin out of his seat as he went between the legs on a slam dunk.
Listed at 7-foot-2, Bol was a terror around the basket, throwing down dunk after dunk, some in spectacular fashion and proved to be a terror around the basket defensively as he blocked or challenged nearly everything in the paint.
Bol attended Bishop Miege where he was a standout until transferring to Mater Dei in California last fall. There he averaged 16.5 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.9 blocks per game while shooting 70 percent from the field while helping lead a loaded Mater Dei squad to a 33-3 record.
The son of former the late Manute Bol, Bol Bol is currently ranked No. 12 in the notational Prep Hoops Class of 2018 rankings and has teamed up with Arizona commit Shareef O’Neal, the son of former NBA great Shaquille O’Neal on the California Supreme this spring. With Bol leading the way Cal Supreme is off to a 9-3 start through three of four EYBL sessions. In nine games, Bol is averaging 25.4 points, 10 rebounds, 4.1 blocks and is shooting 66 percent from the field.
But while his dunks draw oohs and ahs from the crowd it is a versatile all-around game that is pushing his status among the elite players in the 2018 class upwards. He has shown a soft shooting touch, the ability handle the ball, pass and make plays as well as the ability to shoot the ball from the outside.
After attempting just six 3-point shots in 36 games for Mater Dei this past season, Bol has broken out that aspect of his game this spring and has made 15 of 29 attempts, second on the Cal Supreme team for makes and he is the leader in 3-point percentage, shooting 51 percent from behind the arc.
He is currently second to RJ Barrett on the EYBL circuit in scoring, ninth in rebounding and leads the circuit in blocked shots.
Bol Bol currently holds any number of NCAA Division I offers, including, among others, Arizona, Kansas, Kentucky, USC and UCLA.
