Recruiting Report: Aaron Henry (2018)
No one in Indiana has seen their stock explode over the last year as much as 2018 standout Aaron Henry. During the high school season, Henry started to pique the interest of some mid major coaches as well as a few high major coaches and after a state championship win with Ben Davis, the interest only got higher as he now has nine offers. The small forward led his team to the state championship and now he is being rewarded with a flurry of interest during the AAU season running with Indiana PROS.
“It was cool,” Henry said about the state championship run. “It wasn’t expected with the teams lost to in the regular season. I had a lot of fun during the during the season. It was one of the most fun teams I have played on because we all got along together and the chemistry was always good. We may not have had the best team, but I always like my guys in every situation and that is what we showed in the state tournament.”
It was a big leap from Henry’s sophomore year to junior year as he routinely pulled down double-doubles and was a mismatch for everyone who guarded him. Henry can post up due to his size, hit the midrange jumper, or he can take it off the dribble from the top of the key which showcases his handling.
“I developed my leadership,” Henry said. “A lot of those games we got down going into halftime. Just gathering the guys and telling them we can do this and I always put it in my mind to be that leader. I shoot about a thousand threes a week and that’s going to be something I can show this next year and this AAU season I am starting to show it more.”
Henry’s body has been evolving since his freshman year and when he had his growth spurt and he is not slimming down and toning his body more to become more versatile.
“I have just been working hard in the weight room. Everyone knows Ben Davis has a good weight program and all our players have been known to be strong in every sport and I am just trying to take advantage of that. Being strong all over the floor is just a good thing.”
Henry says recently schools such as Purdue and Xavier have been reaching out the most recently but also has been contacted by Indiana, Michigan, and Michigan State.
I like coach Painter a lot,” Henry says of Purdue. “Coach James talks highly about them when we talk about colleges and stuff like that. He says he has always wanted to see follow JuJuan (Johnson) and go to Purdue. They like what they see.”
“Coach Mack is a good coach,” Henry says about Xavier. “They went into the tournament this year and lost players to injury and still went to the Elite Eight. They still made a deep run and that says a lot about their program.”
Henry says that in a school he wants to go somewhere that has a good developmental program and can take his game to the next level. The academic side is the most important to Henry, although he is unsure of what he wants to study.
