Recruiting: Latest News And Notes
As we head into the last weekend in May, the recruiting trail is going strong with 2017’s finishing coming off the board, 2018’s racking up their first offers, and much more. We breakdown the latest.
2017’s Finishing Up Commitments
In the last week, we have seen some big commitments and decisions. One of the biggest was yesterday when Merrillville (IN) wing Cameron Wilbon decided to go the Prep School route. He will head to Don Bosco Prep out of northwest Indiana next year.
Churubusco (IN) point guard Jalen Paul ended his long recruitment as he committed to Trine. He was one of the more under-the-radar guys from up North this past year.
These two were joined by quite a few of their peers including Ronny Williams (Liberty Christian) heading to Anderson, Riley Carter (Scecina) to Park, Tim Abel (Indian Creek) to Cincinnati Christian, and Amari Evans (Indy Manual) to Itasca College.
Thompson Lands First Offer
Zionsville (IN) guard Isaiah Thompson had been waiting to land his first offer and it came from a familiar face. The 6’0 guard scored his first offer from Jack Owens and Miami (OH).
Jack helped to recruit Isaiah’s older brother, P.J. Thompson, to Purdue a few years back and was keeping tabs on him. Now, with a new job in hand, one of the first few offers Owens sent out was to the younger Thompson.
Evansville Offers Southern Indiana Standout
Evansville usually does a pretty good job of offering the top players in the southern part of the state. This week, they offered Floyd Central (IN) forward Cobie Barnes. The 6’6 SF has been playing well this spring with Indiana Elite 2019 and has drawn plenty of interest.
Evansville is Barnes first offer but he’s had plenty of interest from every level including High-major programs.
Other Notes Of Interest:
-DeAvion Washington (TH South) took a visit to Ball State this past week. Washington has had a slew of LM and MM interest from the Midwest.
-Luke Gohmann (Floyd Central) picked up an offer from Marian. Has a wide range of interest to this point. Could pick up more small school offers soon.
-Alex Hemenway (Castle) will visit Butler next Tuesday. Hemenway has been playing well on Indiana Elite 2019 this spring. Has LM/MM offers already in hand.
