Prospect Spotlight: Zach Goodline (2019)
Coloma’s 5-foot-11 point guard, Zach Goodline, is playing up a grade level this summer on the grassroots circuit, and hoping his early interest can materialize into offers.
After a sensational sophomore season with the Comets, he was scooped up by West Michigan Lakers’ 17U squad.
“Competition gets better and more coaches will be there, so those were some of the main factors why I’m playing up this summer – just trying to get as much exposure as I can,” said Goodline.
So far two schools have shown some lukewarm interest in the talented sophomore, Michigan’s 46th-ranked 2019.
“I know that Ferris State came to a couple of my games this year, and Central Michigan invited me to their elite camp. Those are the two schools I know are in contact with my coach.”
With an ability to both adeptly score and facilitate, there’s a lot that Goodline brings to the table for whichever team he’s paying for.
“I’d probably say I’m a true point guard; I can drive the lane, kick it out, get people easy looks. I can finish at the rim very well for being short,” he said.
“Right now I’m working on my mid-range jumper, I can shoot the 3-ball pretty well right now. I’m trying to improve on the defensive end, and working on being a better overall leader.”
This past winter with Coloma he was prolific, going for 27 points per game and shooting 41 percent from deep.
“I’m looked upon as a main scorer. We went 13-8 and I reached 1,000 points this year as a sophomore, which was pretty awesome,” he said. “My role was to score the ball and get my teammates easy layups and 3s.”
The main goal for this spring and summer? Get better, get noticed.
“My main goal is to just get better everyday. I think I can play low D1, mid D1 or high D2. So hopefully by the end of the summer I can have an offer or two; that’s one of my major goals is to be seen this year,” said Goodline.
