Prospect Spotlight: RJ Knighton (2019)
St. Charles Catholic sophomore RJ Knighton is one of the up-and-coming floor generals in Louisiana, and has a great opportunity this summer to play on the EYBL with Elfrid Payton Elite.
A 5-foot-7 point guard, Knighton says his strengths as a player are his ability to both score and distribute prolifically.
“My strong suits on the court are dribbling, and I can see the floor good and I know how to get my teammates involved in the game. And I can score whenever I want,” said Knighton.
“I need to work on my shooting. I go to the gym everyday and practice my shooting.”
He started all last season as a sophomore with the Comets, averaging 12 points and 8.3 assists per game while doing so.
“I just helped lead the team, and we went to the third round of the playoffs. I’m happy with how I played,” said Knighton.
Now, he’s shifted his focus to his 16U season with Elfrid Payton Elite, a Nike EYBL squad.
“They’re asking me to play hard and talk on defense, and just lead the team,” said Knighton. “We’re playing well so far, but we just need to play more as a team.”
So far, the sophomore prospect has no interest yet from college coaches. Something that could change dramatically by the end of his 16U offseason.
“I’m trying to get to that level right now,” said Knighton.
