Prospect Spotlight: Reagan Weiss (2020)
2020 forward Reagan Weiss put himself on the map last season at Plant.
The 6’5″, 180-pounder flashed the first time I saw him play this past season. With a visit from Robinson on Jan. 30, he scored a team-high 17 points. Weiss dropped 11 points in the first quarter as the Panthers scored 19 as a team in the opening quarter.
The kid can play and he knows what it meant to be a freshman starter on the varsity team.
“The part that grew the most about my game over the season was to learn and be exposed to bigger, stronger, faster and older players,” Weiss told Prep Hoops Florida.
Weiss says he is focused on growing as a player this summer playing with Plant in the June summer league and with his travel team, the Tampa Tarpons.
He started playing basketball at the age of 4 and in the 3rd grade, he worked side by side with trainer David Zimroth. Also, at that time the Tarpons AAU team was formed and Weiss says he built something special with head coach Rodney Porcaro.
Weiss pointed to his biggest strengths as his ability to handle the ball and see the court as a big man. He’s aiming to improve his strength, agility and overall speed this season.
I recently listed Weiss as one of five fast risers in the Class of 2020 (Part 1). His length helps him become a mismatch in most situations and his outside shooting ability is impressive. As he continues to mature and become more of a consistent attacker, the sky is the limit for him. Weiss is in for a huge sophomore campaign.
