Prospect Spotlight: Marcus Dockery (2020)
Marcus Dockery saw his role increase gradually during his freshman season at Bishop Ireton, and the talented guard should continue to see an uptick in usage this upcoming season and beyond. Dockery scored in double figures in three of his last four games, and scored in all but one game during his frosh campaign.
“I’m a playmaker. I like to get my team involved first, and then look for my shot,” Dockery explained. “I need to work on my defense, but I talk a lot on the floor. I like to point my teammates in the right direction.”
Dockery is a lefty guard with good size, and can play both on or off the ball. He has a good middle game, and can stretch the floor from beyond the arc as well. We’ve seen Dockery grow into a leadership role this spring as the starting point guard for the 15U DC Blue Devils.
“My basketball IQ and communication are the most improved parts of my game,” Dockery stated. “Being a leader.”
Dockery is carrying a 3.0 GPA at Ireton, and The D.C. native is considering a school that can help him both academically and on the floor. While it’s still early in the recruiting process, there is little doubt that Dockery will garner division one interest down the road. What can he bring to a college program?
“A leader. Someone who is very focused and very coachable.”
