Prospect Spotlight: Josh Warren (2019)
Michigan’s 41st-ranked 2019, 5-foot-9 point guard, Josh Warren, is coming off the heels of a huge sophomore season with Woodhaven, and taking that momentum into his 16U summer.
His role on whatever team he’s with is to be leader, and to both distribute and score in large doses.
“As a player I look to get my teammates involved, and I just take whatever the defense gives me. I think I’m very explosive off the dribble, and I like to create shots, for myself and others,” said Warren.
“I’m working on extending my range to the 3-point line, and just taking whatever the defense gives me. And I’m working to become more vocal.”
As a sophomore with Warriors, Warren says he averaged 18 points, 6 assists and 3 steals per game. A testament to how well he plays both with the ball in his hands, and on defense.
“My role last year was to come in as the starting point guard, and even though I was one of the younger guys on the team I thought I was a good leader,” said Warren. “I thought I did a good job of scoring, getting other people involved, and just leading the team to victories.”
This spring and summer, he’s playing with Michigan Warriors 16U. And like with his high school team, he’s got a responsibility to produce high volume numbers and be a leader on the floor.
“We have a lot of new guys this year, and I really like working with them. I’m the leader of the team, really. I like to just read whatever the team gives us, and go from there,” he said.
Though Warren still has a ways to go with his recruitment, he says there have been some inquiries by college coaches so far this spring.
“I’ve received some interest from Holy Cross and Youngstown State, they have contacted my Michigan Warriors coach,” said Warren.
“My goal is to just get better day by day, and open the eyes of a lot of coaches. My goal is to play at the next level, at the highest level possible. I just got to keep working.”
