Prospect Spotlight: Denys Bachurin (2019)
Denys Bachurin is a 6’7 sophomore forward from Ukraine who plays for Kentucky’s Wesley Christian School. Wesley Christian has quickly become one of the top private school basketball programs in the state, with players like Bachurin helping lead the way. PHKY talked to Denys about his junior season and what it’s been like playing AAU through the first two live periods.
“My high school season and being at Wesley Christian has been a great experience. There is a big difference between European basketball and basketball here in the States. It was more challenging, but also very helpful. I feel as I adapted well and got better throughout the season,” said Bachurin of his junior year with the Circuit Riders. “As a team we finished the season with 33 wins and ranked 14th in the nation.”
Denys is currently playing with the Louisville Magic’s 16u program, competing in the adidas Gauntlet. “The first two sessions of the Gauntlet were great. It was an opportunity to show off my talents in front of several NCAA Division I coaches. I felt that I played pretty good and caught the eyes of a number of coaches.” Denys noted that he hasn’t received any offers as of yet, but has picked up interest from Marshall and Drexel. Bachurin knows offers will come at some point, and says that “The right fit is very important to me, but I’m hoping to have the right fit at a high major program. I’m really just looking for a school that will guarantee me growth in my game, a great coaching staff, a winning program and a good education of course.”
This off-season Bachurin hopes to improve his dribbling, court speed, and strength. If and when he improves on those aspects of his game, expect more college coaches to take notice.
