Oklahoma State Tournament Sunday Morning Standouts
The day began with some exciting games at 8AM, which was a sign of what was to come for Championship Sunday. Prep Hoops gave a look to each game to get the best look of what players had big games in the morning session on Sunday.
Shawn McVea 2020 Point Guard BTR
McVea runs the show smoothly at the Point Guard spot. The ball runs through him with his ability to create. He makes the team have good ball movement. At the Point McVea has some nice handles. He has a good jumper and is very shifty quick. When you watch him play you can see quickly he knows the game. He projects to the small college level.
Kavon Key 2020 Wing BTR
Key shot the ball really well from the perimeter and mid-range. He has some upside to his game with his size at 6’3 trending towards 6’4 and his athleticism. Not to mention Key can shoot the ball well. He will be a player at Tulsa Memorial to keep a close eye on over the next few years to see how he develops.
Kalub Hunt 2020 Wing BTR
Hunt impacted the game in so many different ways that were positive. He is a long lanky 6’4 Wing with upside. Hunt has a good looking shot from behind the arc. He is playing on the Wing instead of being stuck inside to play the Post, which is exciting. Hunt has some bounce to him. The quickness and length of Hunt defensively gave his opponents fits.
Peyton Golightly 2019 Ball 4 Life 16U Gold
Golightly is having an outstanding tournament averaging over 17 points per game. He continued his great scoring streak on Sunday morning in a key bracket play game to advance Ball 4 Life 16U Gold. He is big and strong at the Forward spot with the handles to play out on the Wing a little. He attacked the rim and finished well through contact. Golighty projects to the small college level.
Cody Blair 2020 PWP Red
Blair was one of the best defenders I have seen in the 15U Bracket this weekend. He brought his hard hat and went to work. Blair has some good size at 6’5 with great timing on his leaps when he blocks shots. He did a great job of not fouling, but playing great defense. Rebounding was another area Blair shined. Blair projects to the small college level.
Jaxon Wiggins 2020 Oklahoma Impact Wing
Wiggins is a tall Wing with some upside to his game. He scored the ball well with his jump shot for Oklahoma Impact. Wiggins is young, but certainly has a lot of potential. The go and attack of Wiggins is something you love to see at his young age.
Chris Cornish 2020 Guard Oklahoma Wolfpack
He is a big strong combo guard with a good drive to the bucket. With the ball in his hands he has the ability to score it by creating off the dribble or pulling up and using the jump shot. He did a good job of controlling the pace. Combs projects to the small college level.
Loddie Combs Rockets 2020 Wing Rockets 918
Combs scored the ball very well for Rockets 918. He shot the ball well from three-point range. Combs has some size to him along with quickness, which makes him tough to defend when he drives to the basket. For a Wing Combs did a good job of rebounding on the defensive end.
Tiger Menser 2020 Forward Servants
He played defense well in the paint for the Servants. Menser has a good long lanky build to him. The long wingspan of Menser allows him to be a defensive pest. He was huge blocking and adjusting shots. He also rebounded the ball well. Menser is still raw on offense, but has some potential. Menser projects to the NAIA D2 level.
Moun’Tae J. Edmundson JR. 2019 Point Guard Game Changer Hoops Elite
Edmundson is a good option at the Point Guard spot with the way he controls the pace. He was fantastic on Sunday morning after a slow start. Edmundson got going from behind the arc. He also used his speed to create openings for teammates and himself. At the Point Guard spot high basketball IQ is always a great positive, Edmundson is very smart with the basketball. He projects to the small college level.
