Oklahoma Power Eite defeat OK Run PWP to advance to the Semi-finals
Oklahoma Power Elite defeat OK Run PWP 65-57 to advance to the semifinals of the 2017 Prep Hoops State Tournament.
This was the game everyone was waiting to see all weekend long. Both rosters loaded with players who college coaches would travel to Oklahoma for.
Their were high expectations for this matchup and it did not disappoint.
2018 guard Mason Webb set the tone early for the Power with two quick buckets to put PWP on notice. 2018 guard Stephon Hall also got going with a smooth pull up jumper.
Keyshawn Embery of PWP came out early with a smooth step-back three pointer to ease the tide. The four-star guard also finished a few layups through contact to get his team going.
PWP was struggling offensively after Embery’s flurry, and they needed a boost.
Insert 2018 wing David Ward.
As soon as Ward stepped on the floor he got two offensive rebounds and scored. He also played in a small ball lineup as the five and was a nightmare to guard because of his smooth stroke and soft touch around the rim.
PWP made a run but it was quickly destroyed as 2018 guard Kamden Gipson entered the game. There were a ton of big names all over the floor. That didn’t effect Gibson at all as he played with supreme confidence.
Gipson is small in frame but he was huge today as he scored at all three levels . He also vastly outperformed his counterparts at the point guard position.
If plus +/- was recorded for this game, Gipson’s numbers would be crazy. He made plays all game long and really showed he belongs in a different level of players then previously thought.
The Power led at halftime 27-24 to many peoples’ surprise
2018 Mo Wilson of the Power did a great job of being aggressive and getting to the free throw line. He also hit some open shots and blocked a few as well using his great length and huge hands.
PWP had a strong start to the second half led by Keyshawn Embery and Caleb Huffman. Ward also pitched in with his great ability to score from anywhere. All that was not enough for PWP to regain the lead and pull out the victory.
Jalen Crutchfield hit big shots in the second half to seal the victory.
PWP’s weakness is shooting and that is the Power’s strength. The caliber of shooters they have in Mason Webb, Crutchfield, Gipson, and Stephon Hall was too much for PWP.
This is a great win for an upcoming program like the OK Power Elite. They will advance to the semi-finals.
