NY2LA: 2019 Scouting Pt 2
PrepHoopsIllinois attended the NY2LA Sports Invitational over the weekend in Milwaukee. It featured an array of teams throughout the state of Illinois. Here is part two of our scouting report on the class of 2019 prospects at the event.
SF Kahlil Whitney (Mac Irvin Fire NY2LA)
Whitney is one of the truly elite prospects from the state of Illinois. He is now at Roselle Catholic in New Jersey where he has elevated his game to being a truly big time high-major prospect. Whitney is an explosive athlete that finishes with ferocity around the hoop. Attacks strong off the bounce and is especially effective taking it on the baseline. Finishes well through contact around the rim. Inconsistent free throw shooter. High-major player.
C Adam Timmerman (Fundamental U)
Timmerman is a big bodied 6’8” center from Crystal Lake that was playing with a younger group as Fundamental U’s 15U group was playing up on the 16U level. He isn’t the best athlete and a little slow laterally, but rebounds well with in his area gobbling up boards. Got on the glass for a couple put backs. Also flashed some shooting touch with a pick and pop three. Ceiling is a D2 post player.
G Dashon Enoch (Made Men 16U)
Enoch was good last weekend in Minnesota and did it again in Milwaukee. The powerful combo guard out of Oak Park River Forest is a beast attacking downhill. Strong and explosive first step that he attacks his man and finishes well at the rim on a consistent basis through traffic. Takes quality angles. Flashes improvement on perimeter shot. Solid passer, but will need to continue to improve his feel to be a full time point at the next level. More of a combo at this stage. D1 prospect.
PF Charlie Hoehne (Made Men)
Hoehne continues to elevate his stock. The OPRF 6’7” face up four man is a skilled power forward with good size and bounce. He attacks well out of the high post and from even beyond the arc. Can be a little wild with his handles at times and struggles finishing from time to time because of lack of strength, but he is very intriguing. Handles it extremely well for a post player and is very active on the glass. Flies in on the glass and has a quick second jump to the glass. Should be on the D2 radar.
G Chase Robinson (Made Men)
This 6’0” combo guard from Marist is a plus pull up mid-range shooter. Likes to get in that 15-18 foot range and pull up with a quality jumper. Active hands on the defensive end. Quality spring overall for Robinson. Small college player.
SF Martin Macenis (ET21 Buckeyes 16U)
Huge fan of this 6’5” Stagg High School small forward. At that size he handles the ball tremendously well weaving in and out of the defense. Seems to get into the lane with relative ease. He isn’t the quickest twitched guy, but eases by defenders and finds creases to go to work! Has the ability to create his own shot. Does that by getting to the rim particularly enjoying baseline drives. Also can go get his own shot with a silky smooth jumper. Excellent passer with feel in the half court. D1 prospect that needs to be on more programs radars in 2019.
SF Deng Reng (ET21 Buckeyes)
Reng is a 6’6” small forward from Wheaton North. He is a long and lanky forward that is very projectable. Productivity is hit and miss, but his potential is definitely there as a D1 prospect. He handles it well and gets in the lane. Will be interesting to follow the development of Reng over the next year.
PG Matas Masys (ET21 Buckeyes)
The Willowbrook 6’2” point guard is mostly a catch and shoot threat from the perimeter. Best at this stage playing off the ball and letting it fly from three. Tough and competitive guard. Small college shooter.
PG William King (All-In Braverman 16U)
This was my first evaluation of this Glenbrook South 6’3” 2019 point guard. He isn’t the greatest athlete, but has a tremendous feel for the game. The crafty lead guard is a crisp passer that makes excellent decisions with the ball in the half court. Makes the simple play over and over and over, but they are usually the correct decisions. Always has his head up in transition looking to make a play. As a scorer he is best utilizing a sweet mid-range pull up jumper and can stretch it out to three on occasion.
SG Fillip Bulatovic (All-In Braverman 16U)
Bulatovic is a 6’4” shooting guard from Maine South. Athletic two guard that is a crisp ball handler. Versatile offensive threat that shows he can beat a defense in a variety of ways. He is a sound perimeter shooter pulling up from mid-range and connects off the catch from three. Solid passer especially when the defense collapses on him and he finds shooters. Also like what he brings to the table as a rebounder flying in out of his area to grab boards.
SG Brian Robinson (All-In)
The Plainfield East 6’1” shooting guard is a nice role player for All-In Braverman. The athletic and rangy guard is best in transition where he can use his athleticism to get out in the open floor to make plays. Solid role player.
PF Frank Siegien (All-In)
This 6’6” post is a strongly built post that is a little mechanical, but finishes well around the hoop and converts at the free throw line. Finishes well through contact.
