Northstar Hoops Report State Tournament Preview: 17U Division 2
- The NHR State Tournament starts Friday and a host of the top 17U teams in the state will be participating.
The 17U Division 2 tournament starts Friday night and wraps up Sunday afternoon with all games being played at St. Thomas Academy.

Here’s a quick preview of the 17U Division 2 Field:
The 17U Division 2 tournament features a 16-team field including teams like Comets-Thuok, Minnesota Heat-Davis, Minnesota Crossfire-Bailey and Air Force One.
The tournament format features eight first-round pool games before each team gets put into the 16-team bracket.
Each pool is matched up with a separate pool with the bracket play begins so the team that wins from ‘Pool A’ will play the team that loses in ‘Pool H’ while the loser of ‘Pool A’ plays the winner in ‘Pool H.’
So here are the first round pairings and the following bracket pairings: A/H, C/F, D/E, B/G
Pool A: East Metro vs. School Boys
Pool H: West Central United Blue vs. MN Swish-Fischbach
Pool C: St. Paul vs. Minnesota Heat – Sheehan
Pool F: Minnesota Heat – Davis vs. Real Athletics-Robinson
Pool D: Century Panthers vs. Minnesota Comets-Thuok
Pool E: Minnesota Crossfire-Bailey vs. Minnesota Heat-Inniger
Pool B: Twin Ports Pride vs. High Impact
Pool G: Minnesota Heat-Burnham vs. Air Force One
Things to watch:
Minnesota Heat teams: There are four Heat teams in the 16-team field which means there are bound to be some all-Heat matchups.
West Central United Blue, Minnesota Comets-Thuok and Crossfire-Bailey could be teams to watch in this tournament.
Comets big man Logan Pratt and guard Marquise Smith, Crossfire guards Cade Johnson, Michael Strandness and Trevor Brenning and WC United’s Logan Paulson and Brady Sabolik are all players to watch.
