Nike EYBL: Derrick’s Sunday Dimes
Nike EYBL: Derrick’s Sunday Dimes
Prep Hoops Illinois finished out the final day of EYBL action in Indianapolis getting another look at the two Illinois grassroots teams in the Event, Nike Meanstreets and Mac Irvin Fire. The top two players in the Illinois class of 2018 Ayo Dosunmu (Morgan Park) and Tim Finke (Champaign Central) both capped off the day with big performances. We look at some of the standout performances here in Nike EYBL: Derrick’s Sunday Dimes
SF – Tim Finke 6’7’’ (2018) Meanstreets
The #2 prospect in the state of Illinois faced off against Top 5 national Prospect Cameron Reddish and Team Final. Tim Finke came ready to play and show that he could hang with one of the best in the country in Cam Reddish. Reddish would get the upper hand in the match-up scoring a game high 35 points and the win, but Tim Finke also put on a show finishing with 27 points on 10-18 from the field including 4-9 from 3 and 8 rebounds. Finke is a fierce competitor who was not afraid to go right at the defense for tough baskets at the rim off the dribble. Finke also showed a smooth mid-range game knocking down several turnaround jumpers. He has showed this spring he can be a go to scoring option for the Meanstreets posting some big scoring games against tough competition on the EYBL circuit. Finke does more than just score he brings a lot of intangibles also, he rebounds well, can guard multiple positions and has improved his ball handling and passing. Even in games he is not scoring the ball he finds ways to impact the game and help his team.
PG – Ayo Dosunmu 6’5’’ (2018) Mac Irvin Fire
Ayo Dosunmu the states #1 player in 2018 has been having a great spring, bouncing back from an injury he suffered during the high school season. He has been electric out in the open court. Dosunmu is a PG than can get to the rim quickly as he is a quick guard with a burst that can leave defenders in the dusk. He has good size from the guard spot and can use his length to get to the basket and hit floaters or layups right over his defender. In his game, Sunday versus Spiece Indy Heat he was efficient getting to the basket both out in the break and in a half court setting. He also showed some nice moves from the post and passing ability. Dosunmu finished the game with 25 points and 6 assists. Dosunmu holds 10+ D1 offers.
PG – Tyger Campbell 6’0’’ (2019) Spiece Indy Heat
The pass first PG Tyger Campbell out of La Lumiere Prep, impressed in the game scouted. Finishing with 16 points 3 assist and 3 rebounds in a win over the Mac Irvin Fire. Campbell is a slick ball handler who can break down a defender to get to the lane. He went 7-13 from the field and had some crafty drives to the basket. He makes good decisions with the ball and ran the offense well for Indy Heat. Playing 32 minutes he only had 1 turnover. I liked how he commanded and lead his team if he can improve his outside shooting to go along with his ability to score and get assist off the dribble he will be an even more dangerous threat on offense. The 2019 prospect holds multiple P5 offers.
SF – Brandon Johns 6’8’’ (2018) Spiece Indy Heat
The East Lansing, MI product Brandon Johns has a solid performance for the Indy Heat scoring 16 points on 6-12 from the field including 2-3 from deep. Johns impressed with a nice outside shot. He has good length and is a plus athlete than can finish at the rim with authority. Can play both forward spots with no drop off guarding a bigger forward or a quicker small forward. He finished the game with 9 rebounds 2 blocks and 2 steals. I liked the versatility of Johns who can score inside or out, he is a good leaper and uses his leaping ability to go up and get rebounds. Johns holds offers from Michigan State, Alabama, Iowa, & Michigan among others.
