Kansas City Classic Recap (Class of 2019 Wings)
Here is a look at some of the top Class of 2019 wing players from last weekend’s Kansas City Classic in Lawrence, KS.
Isiaih Mosley 6’5″ MoKan Elite: The versatile wing was dominant in leading MoKan’s 16U to the championship in the 17U Platinum division. His size, athleticism and versatility have made him one of the top prospects in the state, regardless of class. His ability to score at all three levels continues to improve as his handle and perimeter shooting continues to get better. He is also a nice playmaker as he creates opportunities for others with his passing ability. He also threw down a number of crowd-pleasing dunks as well.
Spencer Jones 6’4″ KC Spurs Black: A very skilled combo forward who helped lead the Spurs the 16U championship. Spencer has good size and a big body which makes him tough to handle with his overall skill set. He has the ability to score from just about anywhere on the court. Jones can step out and knock down 3-pointers, plus he has low post scoring ability and a mid-range game. The kid is a smooth operator.
Broc Smith 6’3″ Springfield Hawks: A talented wing guard who led the Hawks to the championship in the Gold Division. Smith has excellent size and a pure stroke from 3-point range. Smith can get it off the catch or he can knock down the one-dribble pull up from the middle area. He has a good feel for the game with his ability to handle and pass the ball. He plays solid position defense and he will get his share of rebounds from the backcourt.
Amauri Pesek-Hickson 6’2″ Team Rush: A physically built guard with a strong skill set and a real scorer’s mentality. Has the ability to power his way to the bucket with his strength, but can also create his own shot through ability to handle the ball and get to the spots where he wants to go. His mid-range game is tough off the dribble and he also has some nice athleticism to go with it.
Elijah Hicks 6’3″ Arsenal Hoops: A physical wing player who plays with a ton of energy on both ends. He is very comfortable with the ball in his hands as he stays in attack mode throughout the game. He scores through contact very well and he will attack the rim with a slam dunk in transition. Hicks shoots well enough from the perimeter to keep the defenses honest.
Keenan Miller 6’3″ MO Team Carroll 17U: A long wing player who played up at the 17U level during the weekend and handled himself quite well. He is a talented offensive player who could get to the basket and finish at the rim. He also displayed a nice shooting touch from the perimeter. He has a smooth demeanor about him on the court.
Dawson Herl 6’3″ KC Pacers White 17U: Another young wing who did a nice job while playing up at the 17U level during the weekend. He is an aggressive and fearless competitor who was a bundle of energy on the court. He didn’t mind bringing the ball up and initiating the offense as he could pass and shoot the 3-pointer.
