Grand Strand Finest (2018)
Prep Hoops is taking a look at 11 players in the 2018 Class from the Grand Strand. The Grand Strand consist of Horry and Georgetown Counties down on the coast.
Jimmy Nichols – Conway HS – Garner Road
Nichols has a great spring playing with the Garner Road AAU team out of Raleigh, NC. Garner Road is playing on the Adidas Gauntlet Circuit. Rutgers, Rhode Island, Coastal Carolina University, Nebraska, College of Charleston, Old Dominion University, Arizona State and Miami (FL) are all keeping tabs on Nichols this spring. Nichols a left-handed post player has a good skill set and a soft touch.
Darren Grainger – Conway HS – Ascend Ballers and Team All or Nothing
Grainger didn’t play this high school after being out injured. Grainger is running AAU with the Ascend Ballers and Team All or Nothing this spring. Grainger 6’5 will more than likely be the starting quarterback for the Tigers this fall on the gridiron.
Robert Swanson – Myrtle Beach HS – Manzer Basketball Club
Swanson is the floor general for the Seahawks with 2020 sensation Emorie Knox. Swanson can really turn the corner quick and find the open man on the floor. Swanson is a very heady point guard who can knock down shots at a high level. Swanson also has a page on Prep Hoops RecruitMe.
Travis Walters – Loris HS – Ascend Ballers
Walters a undersized post player only stands at 6’2. Walters plays so much bigger than his size. Walters averaged 10 ppg and 11.7 rebounds this past season for the 15-6 Lions
Jordan Furlough – St James HS (Murrells Inlet) – Flight 22 Select
Furlough 6’7 is a versatile kid who can play out on the perimeter. Furlough seems to be more comfortable playing face-up and has the ability to knockdown the 3 ball.
Shaquille Johnson – Green Sea Floyds HS – Ascend Ballers
Johnson transferred into the Trojans from across the state border. Johnson was at West Bladen HS. Johnson is a 2 sport athlete and a big-time athlete. Johnson excels in the transition game.
Dijon Goss – Carvers Bay HS (Georgetown)
Goss 6’4 plays out in the Choppee Community of Georgetown County. Goss a wing player averaged 13.5 ppg this season for the 16-10 Bears. Goss a wide receiver on the football team is a small town rural kid who doesn’t play any AAU basketball.
Samuel Woods – Christian Academy of Myrtle Beach – Manzer Basketball Club (pictured on front)
Woods 6’7 finally completed a full basketball season this year. Woods was playing in his first year for the Saints after transferring from nearby Waccamaw HS. Woods a left-handed post player can step out and knockdown 10-12 footer and really plays the passing lanes well.
Andrew Gardner – Socastee HS – Flight 22 and Big Shots South South Carolina
Gardner 6’7 prefers to play out on the perimeter. Gardner has the tools to be a good player but at times he needs to turn up the engine and play harder.
Kenley Vereen – Andrews HS (Andrews)
Vereen hasn’t been scene this spring by Prep Hoops. Vereen a guard last played his sophomore season at Waccamaw HS then transferred out of state to Georgia. Vereen arrived back in the area at Andrews HS in mid December 2016. Vereen didn’t play for the Yellow Jackets.
Juwan Moody – Conway HS – Ascend Ballers
Moody a point guard has strong interest from Appalachian State and Elon on the football field. Moody built like a tank his quick to the hole and fearless on the hardwood.
