Friday Night Nike EYB Stock Risers
The Nike Elite Youth Basketball League in Orange County, California features the 15U and 16U divisions this weekend. Opening night gave the opportunity for several players to separate themselves from the pack. There were several players who clearly stood out.
Antwan January 6’10 2019 Post Cal Supreme
January was simply on another level on Friday night. He was a man amongst boys dominating the paint on both ends. Defensively, January made opponents adjust their shots, blocked them and rebounded the ball extremely well. Good luck guarding January when he is locked in offensively. He used a variety of moves in the Post with his height and strength to finish around the rim. January is projected to the Division I level High Major level.
Markese Jacobs 2019 Point Guard Mac Irvin Fire
Jacobs put on a show in the second half of the Mac Irvin Fire vs California United game. He scored over 20 points in the second half with a mix of drives, jumpers and jams. Late in the second half Jacobs easily had the dunk of the night with a windmill jam to extend the lead for Mac Irvin Fire. Jacobs team eventually went on to fall on a buzzer beater, but not before he made sure everyone took notice of his talents. The Kansas 2019 Point Guard commit was great on Friday night.
Dayten Holman 6’5 2020 Point Guard Team Griffin
Holman was a creator for the Team Griffin squad at the Point Guard spot. At 6’5, Holman has a long wingspan, which helps him on both ends. Defensively, Holman used his length to get into the passing lanes. The biggest thing Holman does offensively that makes him good is using his height to see the floor and distribute the ball at a high level. Holman scored by getting to the rim and finishing in traffic. Holman projects to the Division I level.
Rondel Walker 6’2 2020 Combo Guard Team Griffin
Walker brought his A-game to the Next Level Sports Complex on Friday night. He put on a show in the 15U matchup scoring in all three phases. He mainly scored by getting to the basket using his quickness to blow by defenders. Walker has a good build with solid height at 6’2. The biggest thing that stood out from the tip was Walker’s toughness and locked in attitude. There was not a moment to big for Walker. Early in the second half Walker was the key to getting his team the lead and in the second half he proved to be the difference yet again. Walker projects to the Division I level.
Donavan Yap 6’3 2020 Shooting Guard Las Vegas Prospects
Yap got going in the second half for the Las Vegas Prospects. He has a smooth jumper with an impressive crossover. Yap shot the ball well, which opened up his drive to the hoop. Yap has some swagger to his game with the way he plays on the Wing. He is a young up and coming Guard with loads of potential.
