Five 2018 Oklahoma Division I Prospects Flying Under the Radar
Oklahoma has become known for late steals and guys that fly under the radar. Prep Hoops Oklahoma breaks down five prospects who are projected to go to the Division I level that are starting to pick up interest.
Adokiye Iyaye Putnam City North/Gym Time Hoops Guard
Many are coming to know Iyaye, but it is still amazing how many are unaware or lack knowledge of just how good Iyaye’s game is. He is ranked the third player in the 2018 Oklahoma Class and is closing in on a top two-spot with the level he has performed at this spring. He projects to the mid major Division I level with offers already on the table from UTSA, Binghamton and Kennesaw State. He is hearing from Tulsa, Boise State and Mercer outside of the schools that have offered. Iyaye is a 6’2 combo guard best suited at the two Guard position with a knack for scoring from all three levels and playing tough defense 1-3.
Mason Harrell Carl Albert/Gym Time Hoops Point Guard
Harrell picked up his first Division I offer this week from Binghamton don’t expect recruiting to slow down any time soon for Harrell. He has all the skills coaches love to see in a Point Guard from great instincts, high basketball IQ, the ability to score, unselfish and is a winner. The only knock against Harrell is his height at 5’8. However, Harrell is defying the odds showing schools he can compete and play well against elite competition. Harrell is a player who my opinion changed on last July when he averaged nearly 18 points per game in the Peach Jam Invitational for Team Griffin. Harrell is a Division I talent at the low major level the only question now is what school does he end up at.
Colt Savage Sand Springs/Gym Time Hoops Guard
Savage does not have flashiness to his game, which might be the reason he goes overlooked by so many. He is a dynamic Guard that grew up playing Point Guard the majority of his life. Because of Savage’s experience playing Point Guard he can handle the ball extremely well as a Wing. He is a versatile player who brings instant offense to the table. Savage will fit well at the low to mid major level with his 6’5 height and skill set.
Tauriwan Knight Edmond Santa Fe/Oklahoma Run PWP Point Guard
Knight has been a role player for Oklahoma Run PWP throughout the last two years. He gets overshadowed at times but it should be respected what he brings to the table each game. He knows his role in the summer to play stout defense, run the second team offense and score when called upon. At Edmond Santa Fe Knight is more of the go to guy. That is the thing about the college that lands Knight they will get a player that can contribute right away and is fine with not having to be in the spotlight role. I could see Knight going the JUCO route if he continues to go overlooked. He projects to the low major Division I level.
Carson Meier Shawnee/3D Athletes Guard
Meier might be the most improved player in the Oklahoma 2018 Class. His game has grown leaps and bounds on the Wing. The handles of Meier are heavily improved making him even tougher to guard. For most of his high school career Meier has been able to shoot the basketball, but he is now adding more to his offensive weapons. Meier is a heavily recruited Division II player with Division I programs starting to rev up interest after the strong spring he has had with 3D Athletes. Meier could also be a prime JUCO prospect if he is set on going Division I.
