DMV Players who attended a Prep School last year & have committed to College.
Prep Schools have proven to be a very, very successful decision & choice for many High School players who have gone on to achieve great success on & off the court after graduating their Prep School.
Players chose to the Prep School route for several reasons. Some of the top reasons for players to Prep are listed below:
- Not being physically ready to play which can mean adding strength & muscle.
- Desire to add facets to the players overall game, for instance working on post defense, footwork, creating shot off the dribble, or a possible position move.
- Improvement of Academics and possibly needing to qualify.
- Overall maturity and the need to re focus.
Players & Coaches from the DMV have begun to form some Prep School pipelines which include Hargrave Military & Massunetten Military located in Virginia & Mt. Zion in Baltimore, MD. Hargrave Military post Grad won the 2016 National Prep Championship @ 47-1 & finished this year @ 42-3 losing in the semis. The Tigers are a perennial National Post Grad top 4 team, while Massunutten Military & Mt. Zion Prep were both ranked in the nations top 15, are emerging national powers who will be excellent this coming season. New England has some great Prep Schools such as Brewster Academy in New Hampshire and St. Thomas Moore from Connecticut. DMV players have graduated from and are currently attending both schools. Mt. Zion prep was founded in 2013 and has become an established prep School playing a powerful national schedule and providing academic support for the players. The Warriors are Coached by Baltimore natives, Roderick Harrison (Dunbar HS, UMBC), Dennis Scott (Poly HS, Catonsville CC & Barton College) Rodney Elliot (Dunbar HS, University of Maryland), Cortez Brown ( UNC-Pembroke, Charlotte, NC, Cortez is pursuing his masters Degree). In summary Mt. Zion has a fantastic staff and we will be covering the Warriors this season.

Hargarve Post Grad posted a 42-3 record this past year & Lewis played with DMV players Antwan Walker (HD Woodson HS, DC)and Naji Marshall (Eleanor Roosevelt HS, MD) mentioned in this article in their own section.

Melo Eggleston, 6’8.5″, WG/WF, Upper Marlboro, MD, Notre Dame Prep, Fitchburg, MA 2017.

He is currently ranked @ #270 in the nation and played 2 seasons ago at Rock Creek Christian in Upper Marlboro, MD. Melo boasts a 7’1″ wingspan and he can defend the 2, 3 and 4. he can create his own shot through dribble penetration, is excellent in transition and can shoot the mid range and 3 ball
Brandon Horvath, 6’8″, F, Southern, HS, Harwood, MD, Kent School (CT), 2017.
Brandon is a well known knockdown shooter & played last season at well known Kent Prep in Connecticut and he was ranked #21 in Connecticut for 2017 which includes prep and Non prep players. Brandon was quoted this year “I just felt like I wasn’t sure I was physically ready to come in and play at a high enough level out of high school,” Horvath said. He averaged about 14 points and seven rebounds for Kent.He will play next season for the D1 UMBC Retrievers who play in the NEC Conference, had offers from offers from Quinnipac, Drexel, Iona, Fairfiled & Mt. St. Marys all legit D1 mid majors.

Naji Marshall, 6’6″, WG/SF, Eleanor Roosevelt HS, Greenbelt, MD / Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, VA, 2017.
Naji is a consensus top 55 player in the nation for 2017 & will play for the Xavier Musketeers next season. He led Eleanor Roosevelt HS to a Maryland 4 A State title in 2016 & a record of 24-3 with Naji earning 1st team All Met honors from the Washington Post. Naji thives in the mid range and dribble penetration and his 3 pint shot is now very good. We think he will be an impact player for the Musketeers within 2 years.
Jamarko Pickett, 6’8″, WG/SF, Massanutten Military: Ole Miss* Eastern HS, Washington, DC, 2017.
Jarmarko has risen to the #73 player in he nation and will next season in the SEC for the Ole Miss Rebels. Some experts compare his style of play to Kevin Durant & we agree on this assessment. Jarmako could emerge next year as one of the best under the radar players in the NCCA.
Antwan Walker, 6’8″, WF/PF, HD Woodson HS, Washington, DC, , Hargrave Military Academy, Chatham, VA, 2017.
Antwan was a 2 time all DCIAA Payer of the Year in Washington, DC Public Schools league and as a senior led HD Woodson to a perfect 33-0 and national rankings. Additionally, Antwan was named 1st Team All Met last season by the Washington Post. He will attend Georgetown University next season and play for former Hoyas & New York Knick great, Patrick Ewing. Antwan is currently ranked #223 nationally which we believe is too low and Antwan will prove to be an impact player for Georgetown.
