Cincy Wings/Forwards: Class of 2018
In the last part of our positional breakdowns in the Cincinnati, we will take a look at the wing/forward position. There are some talented, versatile players on this list who will definitely be playing at the next level. So without further talk, let us get right into the list:
Darius Bazley, 6’9, Princeton- The #1 ranked player in Ohio and #58 nationally, Bazley is having an outstanding AAU season. The talented wing/forward has put his versatile skill set on full display for coaches around the country. Already known as outstanding ball-handler and play maker for his size, Bazley is showing that he has improved as a scorer as well. A much improved jumper along with an ability to finish around the rim around and over people with both hands has coaches salivating at the next level. Since de-committing from Ohio State in April Darius has received offers from Xavier, Purdue, Louisville, Georgetown and Syracuse amongst other offers.
Shawn Hawkins, 6’5, Shroder- After missing the whole 2016 season with a knee injury, Hawkins seems to be back to 100%. Shawn is a talented forward who can play both the three and the four position both offensively and defensively. On defense Hawkins has the quickness and lateral movement to defend three-men while possessing the strength to defend four-men. Offensively he is a creative finisher who can finish with both hands and can get out and run the floor. Hawkins is a prospect that coaches at the next level will definitely want to keep an eye out for.
Bryce Hunt, 6’7, Reading- This young man has had a very impressive summer. Hunt has coaches at the next level drooling with his combination of size and athletic ability. While still raw on offense, Hunt has shown some ability to put the ball on the floor while being a very strong finisher around the basket. He is also a very good offensive rebounder. Defensively Bryce competes hard and can use his athleticism to alter and bother shots. My colleague at Prep Hoops Anthony Gonzalez raved about the intangibles aspect of Hunt’s game at the Super 16 in Columbus.
Jalen Rose, 6’5, Deer Park- This is a name that you are going to hear about a lot this season. Rose is an athletic wing/forward who excels at attacking the rim while possessing a solid game in the mid-range area. Has the size to play both wing positions and with his length can defend three positions when engaged. Jalen also has a decent stroke from three point land as he shot 41% on the season while averaging 16.1 points per game on the season.
Arian “AJ” Smith, 6’5, Hughes- Smith has had a very solid summer for Team One Phenoms to follow-up an junior season where he was named first team All-CMAC. Smith moves very well without the ball and is good in catch and shot situations. A very solid rebounder as well, Smith is like the other players in this list in that he can also guard multiple positions also. Arian is starting to draw the attention of coaches from all levels.
