Battle: Scott’s Sunday Standouts
PrepHoops Battle at the Lakes concluded on Sunday afternoon with another outstanding day of hoops. We were at the 16U games at Burnsville High School in Minnesota. See who were Scott’s Sunday Standouts below!
PG Dashon Enoch (Made Men 16U)
Enoch is one of the top combo guards in the state’s 2019 class. He has size and strength that make him a powerful lead guard. Enoch knows how to utilize his physical gifts to affect the game. He can drive with the best of them with a quick initial burst that allows him to get to the rim where he finishes well through contact. Biggest area of improvement in his game is his perimeter shot. Used to be a streaky shooter, but looked much more comfortable pulling up from three. Learning how to use screens in the pick and roll better. Rebounds well in traffic for a guard. Tough pit bull of a combo that is projecting as a D1 prospect. Enoch had 19 points.
SG Dajuan Gordon (Team Rose 16U)
Gordon probably had the most impressive performance of the day. The 6’2” Curie shooting guard is a long and thin wing. Will need to add strength on, but has time and a nice frame on his side. Gordon was absolutely in a zone from deep! He was particularly hot from the corners where he drilled a handful of triples. Confident player that when he gets hot is a force. This was our first extensive look at him, but he projects as a plus plus shooter that should make an immediate impact at Curie next season doing exactly that. Solid athlete that mixed in a few transition scores. Potential to be a nice all-around player. Dropped 37 points in a win.
SG Justin Harmon (All-In Athletics 15U)
Another Curie standout was playing on All-In. Harmon is a young 2019 prospect that is playing on their 15U squad which was competing on the 16U level in Minnesota. Harmon is a smooth scoring guard at 6’4”. Quick release on shot allows him to get it off with ease from anywhere on the floor. Finishes well in transition. Overall you have to like the smoothness that he brings to the table as a player. Things seem to come effortless to him.
C Martice Mitchell (All-In Athletics 15U)
First time seeing Mitchell play and he is intriguing. At 6’8” the long and thin post has great height, but will need to pack on strength over the next few years. The 2020 post moves extremely well for his height as he runs the floor with ease and moves around well on the interior of the defense. Caught a big alley-oop dunk. He showed that he can knock down a mid-range jumper with confidence. The skilled post also had a few passes on the interior for assists. Very intriguing prospect in 2020.
SG Tavion Underwood (Young & Reckless 16U)
Underwood is a 6’2” slashing two guard out of Uplift. The 2019 wing is quick and explosive with the ball in his hands. By far at his best attack his man off the bounce and getting to the cup. Struggles shooting it at this stage consistently. Athleticism plays well in transition. Quick second jump and bounce around the hoop help him contribute on the glass. Would like him to play a little more level headed and not let his emotions get the best of him at times. Talented prospect with some upside. With the departures of the Jacobs brothers at Uplift Underwood will have a bigger role next year.
PG Jeremiah Washington (Young & Reckless 16U)
Washington hurt his hand, but played through it on Sunday. The explosive Bogan point guard has so much speed. Killer cross over and is a very tough cover for defenders to stay in front of. Makes his living in the lane finding teammates for dump off passes, but most of the time converts acrobatic layups at the rim. Makes tough layups on a consistent basis. Little wild with the ball at times, but you take that with his playmaking ability. As a passer Washington made several fantastic dishes. This 2019 is going to make a lot of noise at Bogan this year.
PG Tyrell Terry (D1 Minnesota 16U)
The lone non-Illinois prospect in this story is this D1 Minnesota lead guard from De La Salle (MN). He was unreal playing against a superbly talented D1 Minnesota 15U squad going for nearly 30 points. At 6’2” with a thin frame he might not totally look the part, but this kid has high major game! The angular guard is extremely skilled. Plus shooter from all over the floor both pulling up and off the catch. Makes it look effortless at times coming off his hands. Got literally anywhere he wanted on the floor with his slick handles knifing his way through the defense. Active on the defensive end with a nose for the ball and is willing to contribute on the glass. High IQ lead guard has a very high ceiling.
